Preventive Dentistry/Education
Our primary focus is on “prevention”. Teaching you how to avoid dental disease and catching developing problems in the early stages, will always be more inexpensive than waiting until problems become obvious. We believe the most valuable service we can provide is education and we will work hard to communicate all options and remedies as well as our best recommendations for your needs.
Aside from growth and development problems, our primary oral diseases that we fight in dentistry are dental decay (cavities) and gum disease (gingivitis and periodontitis). Both of these problems are caused by the bacteria that inhabit our mouths and both can be prevented by a dedicated regimen of thorough oral hygiene, that is, brushing and flossing. As yet there is no vaccine, antibiotic, magic pill or mouth rinse that will stop these bacterial diseases and left untreated they can cause not only the loss of your teeth but also damage your overall health.
Digital X-rays
We take digital x-rays and use discretion about taking x-rays no more often than necessary to reduce radiation exposure and cost to you. The x-rays taken in our office are only done upon request from Dr. Howard or a specialist. Digital x-rays not only reduce radiation exposure but also eliminate the film and developing chemicals thus avoiding release of pollutants into the environment.
Periodontics (Gum Treatment)
We can do many things to rebuild and restore badly decayed or broken teeth to their original appearance and function; but once the bone around a tooth is lost, the bone is gone forever. Periodontial treatment is all about prevention. The earlier gum disease is diagnosed and the more diligent you are at controlling it, the better chance you have of keeping your teeth and mouth healthy for a lifetime.
Fillings and Restoration
Art and science come together in modern dentistry to provide a full range of restorative and cosmetic procedures from mouth guards to replacement of missing or hopeless teeth with implants, and from sealants to complete smile makeovers. Gold, silver amalgam, porcelain and composite materials are all options for restorations and each can serve well in different circumstances and budgets.
The choice is always yours.
Crowns and Veneers
Crowns are used to restore teeth that are badly worn, broken or decayed with too little remaining structure to support a filling. A crown can restore the function and appearance of a tooth and is custom made. We use gold, white gold, porcelain and Zirconia in many combinations. We work with the best local, certified dental laboratories available to create the safest, most durable restorations for you. All of our crowns are made in Oregon with only certified materials.
